The Move, 2016-2017

My work on the college building and the people behind it attempts to document some of the changes taking place in South London. I wanted to create opportunities for long serving members of staff to tell their story of LCC.

Through interviews and research into local archives emerges a timeline of how higher education has changed, what impact new tech has had within the creative industry, and the importance of, and responsibility to, community in Elephant and Castle. Is an educational institution a passive witness or active participant in these types of social changes?

With parts of Phase 1 finished - building new apartment buildings in place of old council estates - the start of Phase 2 draws nearer. This involves demolition of the landmark Elephant & Castle shopping centre, to build a new shopping centre and campus for LCC to take its place.

In 2017, The Move was published as a limited edition zine. Each participant in the project received a copy.

A limited edition portfolio was hand-made and acquired by the London College of Communication archives. The portfolio box contains 25 photographic prints and interviews. This portfolio was designed specifically for archival, to guarantee the longevity of these stories.
